Jason Moran: Looks of a Lot
Saturday, May 30, 11am & 1pm
Logan Center, Screening Room
A documentary film featuring Jason Moran and his fellow collaborators as they prepare Looks of a Lot, a multi-media work that the Symphony Center Presents Jazz Series commissioned for performance in 2014. The documentary, by RoundO Films, offers an insider’s view of the artists’ collaboration (Moran, The Bandwagon, visual artist Theaster Gates, saxophonist and clarinetist Ken Vandermark, bassist and vocalist Katie Ernst, and the Kenwood Academy Jazz Band) and their process. In the work directed by Radiclani Clytus, Gregg Conde, and Tony Ganon, Moran’s improvised blues compositions play off Gates’ inventive stage sets built from salvaged materials.
The film runs just over 60 minutes, followed by a post-screening Q&A with Jason Moran and Theaster Gates.
Tickets are free but reservations are required.
